Fujifilm has launched the new Fujifilm X-H2S mirrorless camera. The new flagship follows the success of the X-H1 released back in 2018.

The Fujifilm X-H2S features a new 26-megapixel APS-C stacked sensor with backside illumination. It also has an improved autofocus system. But the highlight of this camera goes to the 6.2K 10-bit 4:2:2 recording making a contender for videographers.

The X-H2S is coming this July and is priced at $2,499 for the body.

Fujifilm X-H2S Specifications

The new Fujifilm flagship has a 26.16-megapixel X-trans CMOS 5 HS imaging sensor. As mentioned earlier, it is both stacked and backside-illuminated which allows for faster data read speed.

Fujifilm says that the new X-Processor 5 helps in ISO noise and allows for better image quality.

The processor is also responsible for the improved autofocus system that allows for accurate and fast tracking of subjects.

Moreover, the X-H2S is capable of shooting up 40 frames per second. It also features a blackout-free shooting experience. This means that you can shoot continuously while having no disturbance on the view finder.

According to Fujifilm, the camera can take 1000 frames if the burst mode is set to 30fps in JPEG. Besides that, it can take up to 20 frames per second in RAW format.

Fujifilm also added that the X-H2S now has different subject detection modes. It now includes human face, birds, animals, motorcycles, and other vehicles. This makes it at par with cameras from competing brands.

Fujifilm X-H2S Hardware and Design

The Fujifilm X-H2S takes the best features of the X-H1 and improved on it. Unlike other X-Trans cameras, the X-H2S has the same large grip from the X-H1. It also retained the top-facing LCD. Build quality is great too as it has a heavy-duty battery.

Further improvements include a separate video button beside the shutter button. The shutter is also rated for up to 500,000 shots.

The new camera features a dual memory card slot. It supports standard SD cards and CF-Express Type B cards.

Now, if you want to take advantage of the camera's features, be sure to use the CF-Express Type B for better performance.

Lastly, the camera has a 5.76-million dot electronic viewfinder with 0.8x magnification. It also has a refresh rate of 120fps for a delay-free experience.

Focusing on Video Performance

The new Fujifilm X-H2S is considered one of the best cameras by Fuji so far as it supports 4:2:2,10-bit Apple Pro-Res HQ, ProRes 422, ProRes LT, and ProRes 422 Proxy.

It can take videos at 6.2K resolution at 30p. Drop the settings to 4K and you can shoot up to 120p for super slow-mo footage. If you need more frames, it is capable of 240p at full HD 1080p resolution.

The camera supports F-Log2. This allows better color correction when editing due to its 14-stop dynamic range.

A problem that mirrorless cameras face is the limited video recording time. But for the X-H2S that is not a problem.

It has a heat-dissipating design that allows for 240 minutes of continues recording at 4K. Of course that changes depending on the ambient temperature and other factors. But 240 minutes? That is impressive.

Besides, Fujifilm has developed the FAN-001 Cooling Fan. It attaches to the back of the X-H2S for better heat dissipation during longer hours of shooting.

Fujifilm Cameras and Lenses coming later this year

Besides the Fujifilm X-H2S, another camera is coming later this year. The Fujifilm X-H2 is expected to arrive this September. This camera will have a 40-megapixel sensor. No other details were announced.

There are two new lenses announced too.

Wildlife photographers might be interested in the new Fujifilm XF 150-600mm super-telephoto lens. It is priced at $1,999.

Lastly, the Fujifilm XF 18-120mm lens with power zoom is priced at $899.

Both lenses are set to fill the gaps in the Fujifilm X-Series lens lineup.
