SS2 to QD Exchange Eligibility
Our SS2 to QD Strap Port replacement is available for the following products.
- Any ProMediaGear product that has an SS2 Strap Port with a QD Option available. Not all SS2 products have a QD counterpart. Only products with a QD counterpart shall be entertained.
- If you have multiple plates eligible for exchange, you can just put one $20 order for the SS2 plates regardless of the number.
- The SS2 to QD Exchange will run until September 15, 2022, or until supplies last.
ProMediaGear customer service provided exceptional support to exchange my camera plate from SS2 to QD. Shout out to Noel, who provided timely email correspondence on the process and options. I have been using the QD plate for over a month with great performance. In addition to the QD conversion, the plate design, fit and finish are unsurpassed.
A happy customer
Courteous and quick exchange. An exemplary program.
After receiving an email from PMG about discontinuing the SS2 system and the exchange program, I contacted them about the process. Very simple as it turned out. After payment of the $20 invoice and small shipping charge, about $4, I received a prepaid return shipping label and in a few days I received the QD lens foot. Just remember to keep your mounting screw as the replacement is delivered without it. From start to finish was less than a week. For me, this was a very fair accommodation for owners of eligible SS2 components. When available, I’ll likely get QD camera plates rather than use a small arca clamp with QD socket that I have Even at full price, much cheaper than the ones from the other 2 suppliers. Everyone will of course have their own feelings about the changeover to QD, but I applaud PMG for offering this exchange program.
While browsing the website, I happened upon the PMG policy change to support only the QD system in the future and immediately jumped on the chance to have my two PMG L-bracket plates with SS2 converted. The new policy was unfortunate in the sense I preferred the SS2 standard over QD, but with the rest of the industry standardizing on QD (I already owned a couple of QD brackets from other manufacturers), I certainly understood the logic for the change. I also didn't want to create issues with future purchases from PMG by having a mix of SS2 and QD. Because I was out of the 120-day "free" window, I placed my order for the conversion and very quickly received a pre-paid mailing label via email. I packed the two brackets and off they went the next day. I don't recall the exact number of days, but I had my two brackets back within two weeks including the transportation time to and from PMG. I am now very anxious for PMG to produce a QD-version of their SS2 plug. There are, of course, QD plugs available from other suppliers, but the PMG SS2 plug was so much nicer, that I'm holding out for the PMG version. I also thank PMG for even making this inexpensive conversion program available. They could have just said, "Sorry" and made their customers repurchase equipment with the QD standard, but this program will obviously save photographers with existing equipment a boatload of money if they want to stick with a single, QD, standard.
