When I moved from my 7D to the 90D, the battery grip went from loading on the back to loading from the side, so my old universal bracket was constantly in the way. Not to mention being in the way of the articulating screen! Additionally, I was looking into moving over to a QD-based camera strap setup at the same time. I thought I'd never be able to use my articulating screen and battery grip without frustration. Enter ProMediaGear. Literally the ONLY L-bracket designed for the 90D+grip, and I couldn't be happier!
Since I wanted a QD port, I opted for the universal base with QD and the 90D-grip-specific L-bracket piece without base. (This is my ONLY complaint!)
This thing is built like a tank! Certainly adds some weight to the camera (to be expected), but with the shape, the L-bracket actually functions as a second, left-hand grip, which I really like, especially if shooting with Live View. This helps compensate for the added weight, and gives me even more ways to hold my camera on a long excursion. Once at a shoot, I had to remove the battery grip on-site due to technical issues, and the built-in storage for the hex wrench was a LIFESAVER! I didn't have to search for tools to remove (and then re-attach) the L-bracket in order to get the grip off! THANK YOU!
The QD port on the universal base is awesome and probably my favorite feature! No additional pieces to screw on to attach a strap OR get in the way when I want to detach from the strap and use a tripod, instead. The QD connection also feels much more secure and reliable than my previous way of connecting my camera to the strap.
The L-bracket doesn't interfere with the articulating screen, either, which is huge! With my old L-bracket, I felt like I couldn't even use the articulating feature of the 90D's screen, which was frustrating!
I've also used the L-bracket without the battery grip, which worked great (obviously stuck up a bit above the camera, but that didn't matter for what I was doing). I'll sometimes use just the universal QD plate without the L-bracket (and either with or without the grip), if I'm wanting to keep weight down. With the built-in storage for the hex wrench, this is exceptionally simple!
If you use the 90D with battery grip and want an L-bracket, it's a no-brainer, buy this. It's a bit pricy, but certainly worth it!
I was pleased to see this bracket for the battery grip for the D series. However I did miss the magnet slot for the allen wrench. That that would make it 5 stars.
The first L bracket that truly works with both battery grip AND the tilt screen. All other brackets I had were limiting the use of the fully articulated tilt screen, both on my 80D and prevoiosly on the 70D. When changing for the 90D, I decided to go for this one, and voila!! It works perfectly!!!
