This was my first investment in a Gimbal head and I have had it for a while. I have used it on a ball head and on a panning head. You can see the set up in one of the attached photos. It shows it with a Sigma 500mm f/4 with a 1.4X TC on a Nikon D850 body. I absolutely love it. Stable, agile, strong, trustworthy. It has also been used with a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 with or without a 2X TC. I have been so impressed that I have now invested in the Katana Jr. I have just received it, so it will be tested this weekend. The photographs below are from my monitor screen (some unprocessed) of some recent and past uses of the Tomahawk with both lenses. By the way, the woodpecker is shot on a Nikon F6 film camera and then scanned.
There is many awesome reviews already posted here ... so I will make mine short and sweet. I enjoy shooting auto racing and wildlife. After reading the reviews here, I thought the Tomahawk would be perfect for my needs. I can tell you ProMediaGear knocked it out of the park. It works fantastic. The detail and machining is extremely is very good. setup was fast. I was able to balance it and set the right amount of tension. I live close (30 miles) from where American Bald Eagles live and nest. The Tomahawk is going to make shooting them this time a lot more easy. I would give it 5 Stars Plus. I highly recommend it !!
s is a fantastic piece of gear that has revolutionised my imaging, It moves quickly and seamlessly between my Kirk tripod head and Manfrotto monopod as required, I shoot lots of coastal birds so switching support depending on rocky/sandy shore and whether I'm using a hide is very important. It is very easy to balance and adjust the gimbal friction - and at a fraction of the price of a full gimbal head. This shot taken with it on tripod @850mm optical. D500
I did not want to change heads when I was going to shoot with the 200-600 Sony and this does the trick. Smooth and stable. Super build quality as well. Picture attached shot at 780mm on A7rii.
I think this might just be the best travel gimbal made. While I love my PMG Katana Jr, sometimes it's a bit too large to carry in my already full camera pack. Enter the PMG Tomahawk addon gimbal. It's small enough to tuck in my pack, yet as solid as a full size gimbal. I use this in conjunction with my PMG BH50 and BH1 ball heads and they pair very well. Although it lacks the vertical adjustment of a full gimbal, I find that it balances very well with my gripped D850/D500 and 200-500mm Nikkor (w/ an aftermarket collar from another mfr.). The camera/lens is almost perfectly centered (left to right) with the tripod apex. YMMV with other lens/camera combos, but it fits mine as well as possible, given the "limitations" of gimbals this style. It's easy to precisely adjust the tension via the large rubber covered knob, even with gloves on. Motion is silky smooth, especially when used with one of PMG's beefy ball heads for panning. It too, is machined, built and finished to PMG's superlative standards.

I don’t generally write product or company reviews but ProMediaGear is a special company. It has been our favorite for several years now. Starting when the company was beginning, I believe! We met one of the owners in Iowa shooting eagles. My husband was impressed with a gimbal head that was being shown. That was our first purchase back then and since then we have purchased tripods, katana jr gimbal head, katana gimbal head, various plates, ball heads, monopod, L brackets, boomerang flash holder. All the items were top grade tools and much appreciated. Our photography has been enhanced with ProMediaGear products. Customer service has been excellent and their products are made in the United States of America. We hope to see their company flourish! Pics are just a few products we have.
